Officially accepted
- Employer payroll deposits
- Government benefits
- Gig economy payments
Chime officially accepts employer payroll, government benefits, and gig economy payments. It excludes ordinary bank ACH and peer-to-peer transfers. Community workarounds are reported separately because they can stop working without notice.
Chime’s help page lists employer payroll, government benefits, and gig economy payments as accepted. It lists bank ACH transfers, mobile check deposits, P2P transfers, Pay Anyone, trial deposits, cash deposits, and one-time deposits such as tax refunds as excluded.
Scope limitation: this Chime page describes Qualifying Direct Deposits for Chime membership status. A separate welcome offer may impose its own amount, deadline, and eligibility conditions; those offer terms control.
Official policy is treated as authoritative. Community reports are observations, not guarantees.

Important: a community-reported success is not proof that Chime will classify the same transfer the same way for you. Sender coding, promotion terms, timing, and account ownership can differ.
Chime’s current help page says bank ACH transfers are not Qualifying Direct Deposits. A community report that a transfer worked for a separate promotion does not override that official rule.
No under Chime’s current published definition. Chime names PayPal as an excluded peer-to-peer transfer.
Insufficient evidence. A recent community report described inconsistent results, and Chime’s public help page does not resolve name-matching requirements for this scenario.
