PNC $100 vs. $400: which requirements fit your pay schedule?
The larger reward requires a different account and more qualifying income. Check the deposit window and ongoing fee waiver together.
| Scenario | Virtual Wallet | Performance Select |
|---|---|---|
| Cash reward | $100 | $400 |
| Qualifying direct deposits within 60 days | $500 | $5,000 |
| Monthly fee without waiver | $7 | $25 |
| Illustration: 3 fee months, before tax | $79 | $325 |
| Illustration: fees fully waived, before tax | $100 | $400 |
Three months is a comparison assumption, not PNC’s promised payment time or required holding period. The $5,000 direct-deposit threshold is not a $5,000 balance-holding requirement. PNC Simple Checking has no cash reward under this promotion.
Start with income that will actually arrive
Count qualifying recurring pay, pension, Social Security or other regular income that can reach the Spend account inside the 60-day window. A transfer from your own savings account does not replace qualifying income. Allow for payroll-routing delays rather than assuming every scheduled paycheck arrives on time.
A bonus condition and a fee waiver are separate tests
Meeting $5,000 of direct deposits over the bonus window does not automatically meet a $5,000 monthly direct-deposit fee waiver in every later statement period. Review the product’s balance-based alternatives and your ability to maintain them.
Check your history before changing payroll
The recorded terms exclude signers with an existing PNC consumer checking account or one closed within 12 months, and primary signers who received a consumer checking promotional premium within 24 months. Availability varies by market; check the official offer for your address.
Then compare net value
The extra $300 headline reward may be worthwhile if you can satisfy the higher deposit requirement and keep fees under control. If you cannot qualify for that tier, its headline is not an available reward for your scenario.
